Terry Fox Walk

It was such a beautiful day yesterday for our annual Terry Fox Walk.  LKS students had such a great time walking their own "Marathon of Hope".  It was great to see so many parents and community members join in on the walk as well.  Thank you to the LKS community for their generous contributions to our fundraising campaign.
The kick-off assembly.  All students and parents gathered to watch a Terry Fox Video.

Our Kindergarten classes showing their support walking around the playground.

Hockey Equipment Donations

Once again, I am in the process of seeking donations of Hockey equipment for a program I am involved with called The TDSB Hockey Academy.  This hockey / mentorship program offers Sixty grade 5 boys and girls in the southwest part of the city a chance to play hockey. These students might otherwise not have the opportunity to play.  Thank you to parents who have already dropped off equipment.

If you would like more information, feel free to call me at the school or email me.  Chris.Lanis@tdsb.on.ca

Thank you

School Presentations

This morning we has 2 school presentations for students.  A big thank you to Parent Council for supporting this initiative.

Grades K-3 students watched a performance called "Hi Rez Comes to Earth".  The presentation focused on inclusion, kindness, and being proud of who you are.  In the play, "Hi Rez" is a space alien who comes to earth and is taught lessons by Jesse on how to be a good friend, include not exclude, and to show empathy for others.  Children greatly enjoyed the song and puppetry.

Grades 4 - 8 students viewed a skit on cyber-bullying.  Numerous strategies were discussed on staying safe on the Internet, what to do if you are targeted, and keeping personal information private.  The students seemed to really connect with the real-life examples.

LKS Terry Fox Campaign

The LKS Terry Fox Campaign is in full swing.  The goal this year is to once again reach $25 000.  There are a number of wonderful incentives for the children at several points along this campaign including extra recess, a movie day and a the shaving of my very own beard!!!

To help raise funds, students sold Lemonade and Running Shoes today at lunch.  A big thank you to all the children who helped, Ms. Gibson and Laura Keogh.
