Fun Fair 2014
A huge thank you to the Ancaster PS community for supporting our Fun Fair today. With over 200 school and community visitors, our fundraising goals were realized. Visitors enjoyed BBQ treats, sampled the greatest cod cakes, samosas and sweet treats, and won great prizes in the carnival games. Thank you to all those that donated their time and items for the day. A special thank you to parent council for organizing such a wonderful event and to staff who gave up their time to assist with the festivities.

Creating a Bird Habitat at Ancaster
This morning, staff, parents, students, and our friends from Unifor Local- Bombardier came to Ancaster to give us a helping hand with our bird habitat project. A few months ago our student ECO committee decided they wanted to have more natural visitors to our schoolyard. Specifically, our ECO committee wanted to create a bird habitat. Our friends from Unifor - Bombardier not only supported our initiative raising over $1100, but they came to lend a helping hand as well. THANKS!!! Also, thank you to everyone who helped, Coffee Time for the lovely treats, and especially the organizing teachers! It was a great morning.
Here are some pictures from the day:

A message from Toronto and Region Conservation Authority
Weather
Conditions:
Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) advises that Environment Canada is forecasting a weather system that may bring 20 to 25 mm of precipitation to the Greater Toronto Area. Precipitation will start Thursday afternoon with the heaviest rainfall amounts expected Thursday overnight. In addition, the rain and rising temperatures will melt some of the remaining snowpack.
Issues:
While significant flooding is not expected at this time, forecasted rainfall amounts mixed with melting snow will result in higher than normal water levels and flows, and possible ice break-up in our rivers and streams, creating dangerous conditions.
The combination of slippery and unstable banks, unsafe ice and cold water temperature will create very hazardous conditions close to any river, stream or other water bodies.
Actions:
Please stay away from rivers and streams and exercise caution around all bodies of water. Please alert any children under your care of these dangers and supervise their activities.
This Flood Outlook Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through to Saturday March 29, 2014. TRCA will continue to monitor streams and weather conditions closely. Further flood related messages will be issued as required. For more information please contact the on-call Flood Duty Officer.

Olympic Day, Suitcase Theatre, Earth Rangers
It has been a busy week at Ancaster. Students participated in an Olympic Day, and had presentations from Suitcase Theater and The Earth Rangers
This first group of photo's show some of the great activities that took place on Olympic Day. A big thank you to all the teachers who helped organize this great event. Students participated in curling, sledding, and hockey, to just name a few events. Fun was had by all and the hot chocolate station was a hit!
Later in the week, the Suitcase Theater presented a musical production called "The Friend Ship". The characters were dressed like pirates and discussed friendship. Students had a great time!
Finally, The Earth Rangers visited and brought some great animals for the students to see. Can you guess what the animals are? This was a great presentation and very educational. Students learned about ecosystems and endangered species.
Ancaster Fun Fair - Parent letter
We have just begun planning our Fun Fair. Please read the letter below and contact the school or parent council if you are able to help.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Parents,
The Parent Council and staff of Ancaster Public School are planning our
annual Fun Fair which is scheduled for Saturday,
June 7th, 12 – 3 pm. The
students are all very excited and will be assisting with the games and events
planned for the big day. There are many
goals associated with our fun fair. Community
building and fun are first and
foremost and very important, but we are also hoping that this will be a
successful fund-raiser to help the school with upcoming expenses. Our last
event helped pay for ipads in the classrooms, necessary equipment, a summer BBQ
for the students, a holiday lunch and helped reduce field trip costs for
students.
This type of event can only be successful if everyone helps out. There are a variety of ways that your
contribution would be appreciated. We
realize not everyone can help by volunteering their time and assisting on the
day of the event, but we are hopeful that many of you can help out in other
ways before the event:
Here are some of the possible items we are looking for:
·
Cash
donations (Any amount) or Prizes for the children
·
Food
donations for June 7th (BBQ items, drinks, snacks, buns, etc.)
·
Silent
auction/raffle items (i.e. gift certificates, electronics, bikes)
·
If
your business can sponsor an event such as our face painter, an inflatable, the
food table. We would have a sign posted beside it stating that is was sponsored
by your business
·
Volunteer
to help on the day of the event (commitment of 2 hours) set up, clean up,
assist with games
·
Volunteers
(older children, friends or family in high school looking for community hours)
·
Everyone
is welcome; please bring your family and friends along to join in the fun.
Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated and will certainly
be acknowledged in our school newsletter and letters of appreciation.
If you would like to join our planning committee, our next meeting will
be March 19, 2014, 3 pm.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please return the form attached by
March 31. Your support will be greatly
appreciated. Thank you!
Yours truly,
Ancaster Parent Council Committee

John Park School Assembly
Yesterday, the students of Ancaster PS took part in a Power of Perseverance School Assembly. The performer, John Park, spoke to the children about never giving up, dividing larger goals into smaller steps and using a role model for inspiration. Children enjoyed the message and his juggling. For more information on the performance, visit www.schoolassemblies.ca.

Student Character Education Assembly
This morning all classes participated in our January Teamwork Character Education Sharing Assembly. Each month, the staff and students will meet and discuss the TDSB Character Trait of the month. Here is a link for more information: TDSB Character Traits. Students and classes are also invited to share some of their classroom achievements. Today, we viewed a digital story called Franklin's Big Game. The story discussed fairness, teamwork, and the importance of working together regardless of winning or losing. Here is the video link: Franklin's Big Game. The grade 4/5's also shared a video of their collaboration on building bridges. Next month the TDSB Character Trait is Fairness.
