Olympic Day, Suitcase Theatre, Earth Rangers

It has been a busy week at Ancaster.  Students participated in an Olympic Day, and had presentations from Suitcase Theater and The Earth Rangers

This first group of photo's show some of the great activities that took place on Olympic Day.  A big thank you to all the teachers who helped organize this great event.  Students participated in curling, sledding, and hockey, to just name a few events.  Fun was had by all and the hot chocolate station was a hit!

Later in the week, the Suitcase Theater presented a musical production called "The Friend Ship".  The characters were dressed like pirates and discussed friendship.   Students had a great time!

Finally, The Earth Rangers visited and brought some great animals for the students to see.  Can you guess what the animals are?  This was a great presentation and very educational.  Students learned about ecosystems and endangered species.

Ancaster Fun Fair - Parent letter

We have just begun planning our Fun Fair.  Please read the letter below and contact the school or parent council if you are able to help.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Parents,

The Parent Council and staff of Ancaster Public School are planning our annual Fun Fair which is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th, 12 – 3 pm.  The students are all very excited and will be assisting with the games and events planned for the big day.  There are many goals associated with our fun fair. Community building and fun are first and foremost and very important, but we are also hoping that this will be a successful fund-raiser to help the school with upcoming expenses. Our last event helped pay for ipads in the classrooms, necessary equipment, a summer BBQ for the students, a holiday lunch and helped reduce field trip costs for students.

This type of event can only be successful if everyone helps out.  There are a variety of ways that your contribution would be appreciated.  We realize not everyone can help by volunteering their time and assisting on the day of the event, but we are hopeful that many of you can help out in other ways before the event:

Here are some of the possible items we are looking for:
·         Cash donations (Any amount) or Prizes for the children
·         Food donations for June 7th (BBQ items, drinks, snacks, buns, etc.)
·         Silent auction/raffle items (i.e. gift certificates, electronics, bikes)
·         If your business can sponsor an event such as our face painter, an inflatable, the food table. We would have a sign posted beside it stating that is was sponsored by your business
·         Volunteer to help on the day of the event (commitment of 2 hours) set up, clean up, assist with games
·         Volunteers (older children, friends or family in high school looking for community hours)
·         Everyone is welcome; please bring your family and friends along to join in the fun.

Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated and will certainly be acknowledged in our school newsletter and letters of appreciation.

If you would like to join our planning committee, our next meeting will be March 19, 2014, 3 pm.

We look forward to hearing from you. Please return the form attached by March 31.  Your support will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yours truly,

John Park School Assembly

Yesterday, the students of Ancaster PS took part in a Power of Perseverance School Assembly.  The performer, John Park, spoke to the children about never giving up, dividing larger goals into smaller steps and using a role model for inspiration.  Children enjoyed the message and his juggling.  For more information on the performance, visit www.schoolassemblies.ca.
